BATON ROUGE, LA - Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry issued the
following statement on SB 145:
“Louisiana is in the midst of opioid and violent
crime epidemics. Families throughout our State have been devastated by drug
misuse and abuse. Working together across political party lines, the
Legislature unanimously passed a bill that would improve and expand Louisiana’s
drug court program - an effective and efficient way to treat addicts and give
them second chances at productive lives. This crime-reducing measure was passed
by the Legislature and received by the Governor on June 1st. Unfortunately, the
Governor has chosen to play Washington-style politics with this important piece
of legislation. I trust the Legislature will continue to work in a bipartisan
manner to move forward with this plan to mitigate our State’s drug and crime
crises.”
