Attorney General Jeff Landry Encourages Participation in Consumer Protection Week

General Landry Hopes National Campaign Empowers Louisiana Consumers

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is joining businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies across the country to celebrate National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), March 6-12. This education campaign encourages residents to take full advantage of their consumer rights and learn ways to better protect themselves in the marketplace.

“Education is always the first line of defense for consumers to make smarter decisions about managing their money, using credit, and building a strong financial foundation for the future,” said General Landry. “I hope our events during NCPW empower Louisiana consumers.”

“People may need help with financials – from shopping for an auto loan to reconciling credit card statements, choosing retirement plans to comparing health insurance policies,” added General Landry. “Our office is here to educate Louisiana residents and protect them from scams and discriminations.”

To highlight NCPW – General Landry’s Consumer Protection Section will host a series of events, including this afternoon’s LifeSmarts Ultimate Consumer Challenge Competition in Baton Rouge. LifeSmarts, a quiz bowl competition established by the National Consumers League, is a fun and competitive way for high schools students to develop consumer knowledge and skills. Representatives from General Landry’s Office will also provide consumer education information throughout the state to help protect consumers against fraud.
