Civil Law Trainings:
The Civil Division of the Louisiana Department of Justice is pleased to announce monthly trainings for Louisiana boards and commissions. These free trainings will focus on some of the issues boards and/or commissions face on a daily basis. Topics to be covered at the trainings include: Dual Office Holding, Open Meetings, Public Records, and Attorney General Opinion Policy. These trainings also include a presentation regarding the North Carolina Dental decision and how it affects you and your public entity. Louisiana Justice Court:
Every year, the Attorney General’s Office conducts a training course for all of the Justices of the Peace and Constables in Louisiana. This annual conference, known as the Annual Attorney General’s Justices of the Peace and Constables Training Conference, is conducted in an effort to support those elected to serve the Justice Court System – providing information about the duties, functions, and jurisdiction of their offices. The Attorney General’s office has assisted in the development and facilitation of several online training courses with the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement Peace Officers Trainings and Standards. Sexual Predator Apprehension:
The Sexual Predator Apprehension Team, also called SPAT provides in-service training to local law enforcement personnel in relation to the Sex Offender and Child Predator Registration and Notification laws of Louisiana and the use of the OffenderWatch® web based program for the registration and management of sex offenders and child predators and their data. The Unit also provides training on the investigation and prosecution of matters related to ‘Failure to Register’ investigations and prosecutions. Cyber Crime:
The Cyber Crime Unit provides in-service training to local law enforcement on conducting investigations on computer related crimes that may involve fraud, identity theft, child pornography, attacks against legitimate businesses by hackers, and provides direct support to local and state law enforcement in the capture and analysis of computer data. Internet Crimes Against Children:
As part of the High Technology Crime Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children or ICAC Task Force works with local law enforcement to share information, resources and expertise in the investigation, prosecution and deterrence of online sexual exploitation of children. The Louisiana Task Force is part of a cooperative nationwide network of ICAC Task Forces that are dedicated to protecting children in the online environment. Response to Domestic Violence and Orders of Protection:
The Domestic Violence Training Team provides P.O.S.T. certified regional training opportunities for local law enforcement concentrating on areas such as the nuts and bolts of domestic violence, laws and legal issues, orders of protection, safety, investigative techniques and special issues such as resources for law enforcement. Human Trafficking:
The Human Trafficking Training Team provides P.O.S.T. certified regional training opportunities for local law enforcement concentrating on areas such as the dynamics and description of human trafficking , identification and documentation, laws and legal issues, investigative techniques and special issues such as resources for victims and law enforcement. Insurance Fraud:
The Insurance Fraud Support Unit has operated as a member of the Insurance Fraud Task Force, working closely with the Louisiana State Police and Department of Insurance to investigate and prosecute virtually all types of insurance fraud that occur in Louisiana. Medicaid Fraud:
The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit offers training to healthcare providers and provider associations upon request. We have a standard presentation that explains what the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is and what types of matters we investigate. The presentation also discusses patient abuse and Medicaid fraud and the relevant statutes. Anyone who is interested in scheduling a presentation should call 225-326-6210.

Fraud and Abuse:
The Consumer Protection Section works to educate the public about common forms of fraud targeted at the elderly, such as sweepstakes and telemarketing scams as well as educating the public on common forms of abuse providing resources and preferred response. Consumer Safety:
Our Consumer Protection Section offers a variety of presentations targeting scams that affect the consumers of our state. Our consumer mediators take complaints and work to mediate issues involving the purchase of products and services such as automobiles, home repairs, and landlord-tenant issues.
